Mission to Amish People Ministries

Since the year 2000 Mission to Amish People has provided high-quality assistance to members of the Amish community who are trying to integrate into English communities. As we have grown, we’ve added a number of helpful services which are available to both Amish and former Amish people.

The structure of the ministry is made up of a 14 member board that meets several times a year. The services are outlined here.

Transitional Ministry

When a person or family leaves the Amish we immediately assist them in the following ways.

* Short term housing and transportation

* Applying for their social security number

* Filling out work applications and finding a job

* Driving lessons and getting their drivers license

Survival Skills Training

      * Objective: to provide assistance to members of the Amish community who plan to integrate into English communities.

      * Content: four sessions based on employment, money management, communication and relationships, and career/interests counseling.

      * Methods: short lectures, discussion groups, handouts, power point presentations, and videos.

Donation Center

Most of the young folks that are leaving their Amish culture do not have more then the clothing they are wearing at the time they move. For this reason we have opened up a 2,000 Sq. Ft. heated center where church groups and individuals can donate used clothing, furniture, cookware, towels, soaps and hygiene products, to the ministry and when a person or family leaves the Amish we take them to the Donation Center where they can choose items they are in need of.

Education Assistance Program

Amish children are not allowed to go higher then an eighth grade education. One of the first things we try to do when they leave their culture is help them get their GED. A number of them have gone on to college to further their education in either the business world or in a greater understanding of the Bible.

Adopt-a-Person

When a person leaves the Amish they become out casts in the Amish community. They are no longer welcome to come home to any family activities such as special holidays, weddings, or funerals. For this reason we have established Adopt-a-Person so that families in this (English) culture can take them in as their own.

Sonlight Club

This is a correspondence through the mail program that helps Amish children and adults become more confident in their spiritual walk. The Sonlight Club is a program that reaches into 30 states and Canada. We offer 27 different Bible study courses that cover the ages from 4 years old through adult. At this time we have 5,000 Amish children and adult students who are enrolled in the Sonlight Club program. This ministry also offers an awards program that allows our students to earn points. We keep a record of all points earned and then send them the appropriate awards based on the points you’ve earned.

Voice of the Amish

Voice of the Amish is a publication that has been in the works for two years. We have gathered over 23,000 addresses of Amish families and put them in a computer database. This publication will be used as a spiritual tool to help teach and educate the Amish communities about truth of the gospel.

Tape Ministry

We provide Amish people with battery operated cassette players and sermon tapes on a bi-weekly basis. This is just another way that we have been able to show support and help the ones that are searching and need answers.

Church Planting

Since 2003 we have had a part in planting two churches that are made up of mostly former Amish people who have been excommunicated from their culture because of their faith in Jesus Christ. One church is located in Plymouth IL and the other in Mt Gilead, OH.

Missions Projects

Since 2003 the ministry has taken a big part in sending some of our young people on short term mission’s trips to Costa Rica, Africa and Papua New Guinea.

Getting Churches Involved

Since 2000 we have been to over 150 churches and special group gatherings in the US with the intent to educate people on how they can become involved in reaching out to the Amish communities in their own areas.

Meeting the Future

In addition to traditional fees for service, we at Mission to Amish People are enabled to continue our expansion of services to Amish and former Amish people through charitable donations and fund raising events.  In this way, the ministries of Mission to Amish People have been enriched through love and support of many interested families and partners, helping us move ahead.

We would like to offer our friends the opportunity to contribute to one or more Legacy preservation funds which provide a perpetual source of income, security and continued growth to Mission to Amish People. Throughout our history, we have maintained a strong commitment to excellence in every aspect of our work. To enable us to continue to build upon this commitment, we have established the Mission to Amish People Legacy Society.

Mission to Amish People’s Legacy Society consists of individuals who have remembered, or plan to remember Mission to Amish People in their estate disbursement. Donors may designate funds for Mission to Amish People through personal estate planning- whether by will, insurance, special gifts or life income arrangement. The Legacy of Love gifts will continue always to serve the needs of future generations of Amish people.
