Simon & Ellen with their 12 children
I was born and raised on a farm. Growing up as a young lad, I
always thought, "If only I would have been an animal or something other
than what I was, then I would never have had to see this dark picture
painted in my mind of how a person gets to heaven."
Over all I had a happy life, except for the fear of
dying and coming before God unprepared.
I felt convicted of wrong doing when I looked at it in the light of
the Scriptures.
One day I remember reading in Acts 2:21 about the last days and it
said, "Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be
saved." I thought that
it would be easy to just call upon Him.
Little did I know that this is what God requires from all who want
to enter into the Kingdom of Heaven.
As time went on, I married a sweetheart that
God sent into my life. God blessed us with children. Although our lives consisted of ups and downs, there was
still that empty feeling inside.
We were shocked one day when we heard that a family was leaving the
Amish lifestyle. This caused
us to search the scriptures as never before. I began to get very confused
about the things that I was taught
all my life in the Amish faith. For example, why did we not believe in
being saved like the Bible teaches? Finally,
I understood why this family was leaving the Amish.
In the Amish, we were taught to be baptized and then join the
church. We were taught to
follow the advice of the elders and then everything will be all right. But
God said, in Jeremiah 17:5, "Cursed
be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart
departeth from the Lord". I said, "Whoa, what's going on
here? I said to Jesus,
"I don't care anymore what man says, I want to know the truth, and for
the truth I would give up everything, including my family."
God began to show us things in His holy words that I had never seen
before. It was like taking off the blinders. WOW!
In Acts 4:12 it reads, "Neither is there salvation in any
other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby
we must be saved."
Ephesians 2:8-10 "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and
that not of yourself: it is the gift of God.." Verse 9, 10
"Not of works, lest any man should boast.
For we are His workmanship created in Christ Jesus unto( for) good
works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them." When
I read and understood this scripture I realized for the first time in many
years that I was putting the cart in front of the horse. As I looked at
these scriptures and many others, I could very easily see that our works
will not get us to heaven.
We learned that in order to get to heaven, we had to accept God's
gift - how can we work for a gift? Impossible!
We also we realized that it is by God's grace that we are saved.
God did not say that He would save us after we died, like we had
been taught previously. 2
Corinthians 6:2 "For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted,
and in the day of salvation have I succoured (helped) thee: behold, now is
the day of salvation."
So having read and understood all these things one night,
I felt drawn by the Holy Spirit.
I said to my wife, "I think I'd like to get saved. How about
you?" She also accepted the
fact that we need to get
saved. We knelt down beside
our bed and for the first time in my life, I prayed to Jesus from my
heart. I asked Jesus to take over my life and told Him that I wanted to
follow Him whatever the cost. And Glory to Jesus, He saved me. Jesus
completely changed me from the inside out.
In 2 Corinthians 5:17 "Therefore
if any man be in CHRIST he is a new creature: old things are passed away;
behold, all things are become new."
This is exactly what happened to me!
Jesus made me whole like the man in John 9:25.
One thing I know is that I
was blind and now I see.
Having said
all this, my question to you is, are
you ready to meet Jesus when he comes back? Are you washed in the
blood of the Lamb? Hebrews 9:22 "And almost all things are by the law
purged (cleansed) with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission (forgiveness)."
If you are not saved then I beg you to seek Jesus while it is
yet time. If you want help,
please feel free to write us and we will get back to you. We want to help
you find Jesus The Lord.
