The Amish Voice 2
maybe once you get to heaven. It is an abso-
lute promise. We can put our faith in these
words.
Also Jesus said in John 3:16
“For God so
loved the world that he gave his only
begotten Son that whosoever believes in
him should not perish, but have everlast-
ing life”.
Do we truly believe this?
Because if we do, we have everlasting life.
A promise is only as good as the ability of
the one who spoke it.
In Hebrews 7:25 it says,
"Wherefore he is
able also to save them to the uttermost
that come unto God by him, seeing he ever
liveth to make intercession for them."
Another promise Jesus left us, was that he
would send the Holy Spirit after he as-
cended to the Father, which was fulfilled in
Acts chapter 2.
The Holy Spirit was given to us for the very
reason that Peter was referring to in the
verse of our text.
According to the way I understand this
verse, it is saying that the power of the Holy
Spirit gives us everything we need to be
able to live Godly lives.
According to Paul, this is the same Holy
Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead (Rom.
8:11), and he now lives inside of us. This is
something that is truly amazing. It says in
Zechariah that it is not by our own might or
power, but by my Spirit that we are able to
do anything.
It is as we fully rely on the Holy Spirit for
understanding, as we read the Word of God
and lean on the promises in the Word, that
we can truly be free and get to know him
who has called us to glory and virtue.
Jude 1:24-25 says,
Now unto him that is
able to keep you from falling, and to pre-
sent [you] faultless before the presence
of his glory with exceeding joy, To the
only wise God our Savior, be glory and
majesty, dominion and power, both now
and forever. Amen.
In conclusion, since the fall of humanity
people have been trying to come to God
through the works of their own hands (for
example, Cain), which is rejected by God.
Only those who come to Him by putting
their faith in the blood of the Lamb (Jesus)
are accepted by God, which is what Able
did.

The following article was written and passed on to
us by Henry Byler:
He writes, I have noticed the last
couple days that I have been heavy hearted. I have read a
lot about the devastation in Japan. When I add it to the last 6
or so years, we have had so much devastation in the world. In
2004, the huge earthquake and tsunami (Indonesia & Thailand
were hit hardest). The devastating earthquake in China. And a
couple years ago, Katrina in New Orleans, plus we have had a
lot of flooding, tornados and snow storms. And, of course the
economic collapse that we have really felt hard, here in this coun-
try. Then there are also the earthquakes in Chile and New Zea-
land; now an epic devastation in Japan.
There are many other things that have happened; these are just
off the top of my head. I find myself almost like grieving, or some-
thing. I don't even know how to put it in words. But, I know I have
had a heavy heart lately, just thinking about all the suffering.
I realize that this is probably the "birth pains" that Jesus said
must be before He returns; As believers, we long with great an-
ticipation for that day. However, I am so sad, as I think about all
the suffering and all the souls going into eternity without know-
ing the Lord. I think ALL of the above contributes to the feelings I
have; surely I am mourning as if I had lost a loved one lately.
Another person wrote:
Such devastation brings to mind what
our Lord has said to us. As believers, we must always strive to
maintain a biblical world view. Jesus said in Matthew 24:6-8, “
And
ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not trou-
bled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.
For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against
kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and
earthquakes, in divers places. All these are the beginning
of sorrows.
” We have seen this in Japan, Libya, and Egypt.
The fallen world will “groan” under the burden of sin. Paul said
in Romans 8:22-23,
For we know that the whole creation
groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now. And not only
they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit,
even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption;
the redemption of our body.”
His final redemption and our resur-
rection; that is our eternal hope.
Remember Psalm 46:1-3, 10
says,
God is our refuge and strength,
a very present help in trouble. Therefore, we will not fear, though
the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into
the midst of the sea; Though the waters thereof roar and be trou-
bled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof.
In
verse 10, we are called to
Be still, and know that I am God: I will
be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.”
One way God can be “exalted” is through you and me. Matthew
5:16 tells us,
“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see
your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”

In conclusion, let’s not forget that as Christians, we already know
the end of the story. Satan and the unbelieving world are going to
loose, but on the other hand, God and His family of believers are
going to win. May the Lord bless you richly! — Joe Keim
