The Amish Voice 8

Do you realize that the only time in our lives when we like to

get old is when

we're kids? If

you're less than 10

years old, you're so

excited about aging

that you think in

fractions.

"How old are you?"

"

I'm four

and a

half!"

You're never thirty-six and a half. You're four and a

half, going on five! That's the key.

You get into your teens, now they can't hold you back. You

jump to the next number, or even a few ahead.

"How old are you?"

"I'm

gonna be

16!" You could be 13, but hey, you're gonna be

16! And then the greatest day of your life .. . You

become

21.

Even the words sound like a ceremony.

YOU BECOME 21.

YESSSS!!!

But then you

turn

30. Oooohh, what happened there? He

TURNED. There's no fun now, you're just a sour-dumpling.

What's wrong? What's changed?

You

BECOME

21, you

TURN

30, then you're

PUSHING

40.

Whoa! Put on the

brakes,

it's

all

slipping

away.

Before you know it,

you

REACH

50

and your dreams are

gone.

But wait!!!

You

MAKE it

to 60.

You

didn't

think

you

would!

So you

BECOME

21,

TURN

30,

PUSH

40,

REACH

50, and

MAKE it

to 60.

You've built up so much speed that you

HIT

70! After that it's

a day-by-day thing; you HIT Wednesday!

You

get into

your 80's and every day is a complete cycle: you

HIT lunch, you TURN 4:30, you REACH bedtime, and it

doesn't end there.

Into the 90s, you start going backwards; "I

Was JUST

92."

Then a strange thing happens. If you make it over 100, you

become a little kid again. "I'm 100 and a half!"

May you all make it to a healthy 100 and a half!!

Living a Life That Counts

Have you ever wished to know the exact day and hour you will

die? Or maybe you are like me; I wonder sometimes how I will

die. Regardless, God alone knows these answers. All of us

want to spend our days, hours, and seconds on something

important.

As Christians, we want our lives to count for God.

If that’s the case, we have to manage wisely the three primary

resources God has entrusted to us: our time, our money, and our

talents. If you want your life to count, you have to number your

days.

Psalm 90:1-12

V-1 & 2

Lord, thou hast been our dwelling place in all

generations. Before the mountains were brought forth, or

ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even

from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God.

The word everlasting means "from the vanishing point to the

vanishing point.'' God is from the vanishing point in the past

and reaches to the vanishing point in eternity future. Just as far

as you can see, from vanishing point to vanishing point, He is

still God. —J. Vernon McGee

V-4

For a thousand years

in thy sight are but as

yesterday when it is past

, and as a watch in the night.

It would be like the flight of a bird through a lighted room,

coming out of the darkness through one window and going out

another window into the darkness again. —J. Vernon McGee

V-10

The days of our years are threescore years and ten

(70 years); and if by reason of strength they be

fourscore years (80 years), yet is their strength labour

and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away.

Time can be spent like money, which leads most people into

one of two mistakes:

1. Some think they have too much time and waste it on

unimportant things, preventing them from spending it on

things that matter.

2. Others think they have too little time and

don’t even try to do anything significant.
