The Amish Voice 11
Sow to yourselves in righteousness,
reap in mercy; break up your fallow
ground: for it is time to seek the
Lord, till he come and rain
righteousness upon you.
—
Hosea 10:12
In the parable
of the sower
and the seed
that Jesus told, the
seed is the word of God.
All of the seed sown was good. The
problem was the condition of the soil—
the heart. How is your heart? Is your heart
prepared to hear from God? Are you
seeking Him? Sow to yourselves in
righteousness, reap in mercy. Are you
seeking God in all that you do? Have you
turned from your sin? Do you trust in
Jesus? Break up your fallow ground.
Fallow ground is ground which has been
plowed but then has been left unplanted
for a season or more. It is land that is not
in use. It is inactive. It needs to be broken
up again and made soft before seed can
grow in it. Has the soil of your heart been
allowed to get in this condition? Did you
once seek God? Did you used to hunger
and thirst after Him? Does your heart now
lay inactive, having no time for the word
of God? Maybe you still go to church and
go through the religious rituals, but has
your relationship with Jesus grown cold?
Get rid of the weeds—the things in your
heart keeping you from fully seeking and
following God. Is it sin, rules, traditions,
or worldliness? Maybe it is pride or
busyness. Whatever it is, it is not worth
letting your heart grow hard. Break up the
fallow ground of your heart and get your
heart ready for God.
It is time to seek the
Lord. It matters
not how long
you
have
delayed. It is
time NOW to seek
the Lord. You do not
know how many years or days you might
have left on this earth. It is NOW time to
seek the Lord. How long should you seek
Him? Until He comes and rains
righteousness upon you! Do not stop
seeking God until He changes your heart.
Call out to God to work in your heart and
change you? Break up your fallow
ground. It is time to seek the Lord until
He comes and rains righteousness upon
you.
