September—Norma Miller Testimony:

Listen to Norma

Miller and her life-changing testimony. You may know her

from the articles she writes for the Amish Voice. This

month, she writes about fathers on page 8.

August—Power of Prayer:

We know that prayer is

important. We should pray often and effectively. Have you

seen God answer prayer in your own life? Do you believe

that God answers prayer today?

July—Taking the Gospel to Others:

We should take the

Gospel to others, but what does that mean? What is the

Gospel? Are we obeying the command of Jesus to take the

Gospel into all the world?

June—The Return of Jesus:

Jesus is coming back, and soon.

Are you ready?

May—Separation:

What does the Bible mean that we

should be separate from the world? Is it a matter of outward

appearance and actions, a matter of the heart, or both?

A member of a certain church, who

previously had been attending services

regularly, stopped going. After a few

weeks, the preacher decided to visit

him. It was a chilly evening.

The preacher found the man at home

alone, sitting before a blazing

fire. Guessing the reason for his

preacher’s visit, the man welcomed him, led him to a

comfortable chair near the fireplace, and waited.

The preacher made himself at home but said nothing. In the

grave silence, he contemplated the dance of the flames around

the burning logs.

After some minutes, the preacher took the fire tongs, carefully

picked up a brightly burning log and placed it to the side, away

from all the hot logs, all by itself. Then he sat back in his chair,

still silent.

The church member quietly watched all this without saying a

word. As the one lone log's flame flickered and went out, there

was a momentary glow and then its fire was no more. Soon it

was cold and dead.

Not a word had been spoken since the initial greeting. The

preacher glanced at his watch and realized it was time to

leave. He slowly stood up, picked up the cold, dead log and

placed it back in the middle of the fire. Immediately it began to

glow, once more with the light and warmth of the burning coals

around it.

As the preacher reached the door to leave, his church member

(with a tear running down his cheek) said, “Thank you so much

for your visit and especially for the fiery sermon. I shall be

back in church next Sunday.”

We live in a world today which tries to say too much with too

little. Consequently, few listen. Sometimes the best

sermons are the ones left unspoken.

Sermon Without a Word

—Author Unknown

There are five things in life that every

person in the world desires and

passionately seeks after. It makes no

difference whether he or she is young or

old, rich or poor, educated or unlearned.

Married people and single people strive

after them. City slickers, country folk,

the famous, and the unknown—all seek

and yearn for

love, acceptance, security,

purpose, and identity

. The wonderful

thing about Christianity is that all five of

these needs are instantly met the moment

one is born into God's family. The world

around us may hate and reject us, but

Jesus Christ will always

love

and

accept

us. The storms of life will certainly

continue to rage, but Jesus will hold us

securely

.

Yes, our dear Lord has given us reason to

live. He also gave us

identity

the moment

He placed us in His eternal family.

Oh, glory to God our Savior! —Joe Keim
