U-M to screen Amish children for hearing loss

MONTGOMERY-CAMDEN TOWNSHIP, MI – University of Michigan volunteers will head to the Montgomery-Camden township area April 13 to screen children of the Amish community for hearing loss. Yvonne Atwood, director of personal health and disease prevention for the Branch-Hillsdale-St. Joseph Community Health Agency said the Amish community has a hereditary condition which affects hearing.

“We have approximately 25 of those children that have already received their hearing aids,” she said.
