Surge in Amish population growth is reshaping rural Missouri

Ashlea Cardin is an occupational therapist in southern Missouri, where many of her clients are Amish children.

Recently, one of her patients died, and the family asked her to attend the viewing.

“I drove out there, and I had never seen so many horse and buggies,” Cardin said.

Likewise, Katie Broeker, who owns a farm stand in Washington, Missouri, has noticed an Amish population surge in her area.
