Why Go To Church?

A Church goer wrote a letter to the editor of a newspaper and complained that it made no sense to go to church every Sunday. "I've gone for 30 years now," he wrote, "and in that time I have heard something like 3,000 sermons. But for the life of me, I can't remember a single one of them. So, I think I'm wasting my time and the preachers are wasting theirs by giving sermons at all."

This started a real controversy in the "Letters to the Editor" column, much to the delight of the editor. It went on for weeks until someone wrote this clincher:

"I've been married for 30 years now. In that time my wife has cooked some 32,000 meals. But, for the life of me, I cannot recall the entire menu for a single one of those meals. But I do know this... They all nourished me and gave me the strength I needed to do my work. If my wife had not given me these meals, I would be physically dead today. Likewise, if I had not gone to church for nourishment, I would be spiritually dead today!"

The Bible says very clearly in Hebrews 10:25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching. Read the verse closely and it is clearly seen that the idea is often: we are to assemble together often and never to forsake our coming together. Genuine believers need each other-the presence, fellowship, strength, encouragement, care, and love of each other.

If you're not getting anything out of going to church, maybe you're in the wrong church or look with in your heart. We all need a closer relationship with God. We go to church to give thanks and praises to our glorious God and Savior and sermons teach in many ways. We have to listen to what is said, it's God's word and that contains power, when God's word goes out you can be sure there is a purpose. If you are not seeing or feeling it you need to get closer to God. He loves us all.

It really is not about remembering the massages, But we should be changed little by little by the massages. If that lady listened to preachers for 30 years and she is still the same in her heart then something was wrong with her motives all these years to start with. unless those preachers were not preaching repentance and relationship with God.

Chuckles In this length of time you have probably eaten 30 plus thousand meals and since you likely remember very few of them where or how strong would you be if you could take away the effects of all the ones you don't remember.... Joe is right its not about remembering but did they do you good at the time ...peace....comfort....confirmation... and yes... repentance aka refreshing ect...
