Do You Feel Safe?

I’ve been a Christian for over 43 years now. I feel that I’ve learned some things in those years. One thing I recognize in myself is my need to feel safe. I know that it’s not entirely possible to feel safe 100% of the time. Circumstances sometimes dictate otherwise. But even in the midst of circumstances beyond our control, and the promise in the Bible that our world will sometimes get rocked, there has to come from somewhere a degree of safety.
Where does that degree of safety come from?
First
of all it comes from Jesus, who is the Good Shepherd who guides and “giveth his life for the sheep” (John 10:11-15). Jesus goes on to say, “I...know my sheep, and am known of mine.” There is comfort and a feeling of safety in knowing that Jesus ‘has our back’. He knows and understands exactly what we are going through.
Secondly,
a feeling of safety comes from the shepherds that God provides for us on earth to look over us. They “seek that which was lost, and bring again that which was driven away, and will bind up that which was broken, and will strengthen that which was sick” (Ezekiel 34:16).
Thirdly,
a feeling of safety comes from God’s Word. Sometimes I read it and am in awe that God repeatedly, hundreds of times, gives us promises of safety and deliverance.
“The LORD is nigh unto
them that are of a broken
heart; and saveth such as
be of a contrite spirit.”
Psalm 34:18
