Amish Minister: Please Return to the Fold
January 4, 2007
Dear Lester,
Greetings from on High. I do not know why I keep thinking about you so much lately, other than out of deep concern for you and your dear family.
Many years ago you met Saloma, a dear girl, and as soon as she was old enough to date she was yours. No other boy had a chance. We thought the world of Saloma. She became your dear wife. She bore your children, she moved with you wherever you wanted to go, even if the houses were sometimes too small for your growing family. She never complained, but was a patient, submissive wife and as far as we ever knew, a loving, wonderful companion. She helped you raise your children in the faith you and her parents raised you. She was there for you, she cared for you. And then all of a sudden she was gone. Gone forever - will never return. Her work is done, leaving you and all the children by themselves.
You had hard times, no doubt. People tried to help where they could. Some of your children got partners, married, and now there are also grandchildren.
Now all of a sudden all that Saloma helped you accomplish in the Christian Amish faith is wrong. It is no longer good enough for you. And yet, you were so strong and strict in that faith while she was here. You take all that under your feet. It is no longer good enough. You misled your dear children. You befuddle their minds that they don't know what is right or wrong. You are responsible for all that misleading. Think about it. Lester, stop and think what you are doing. You know better. This is far from what your parents taught you and you know it.
Satan has a hold of you. You say the Lord shows you to do this and that. Lester, how can you say it's the Lord when you know it's not what you were taught? You say we don't understand. I think it's time you realize who doesn't understand. Satan has you where he wants you. It is sad and sad indeed to see your dear children being so misled. You can turn the scriptures around as you like, but you cannot change what's right and wrong. And don't tell me you don't know.
And now leaving the Amish faith isn't good enough, you have to drag the Amish name along in your businesses. Why, if they are no good or not good enough for you to remain Amish, why use the name to make your business prosper. Now, that I don't understand.
I think it's time you stop and start thinking just where you are and what you're doing. How can you sit in a worldly vehicle and dress like the world, and drive around like the world. And say the Lord shows you to do these things. Lester! It's unthinkable and terrible, how can you go to sleep at night. Only because Satan has you in his grip!
All we can do is pray and then pray some more and hope you see your sins before it's too late. You have hopes of meeting your dear Saloma at the end of your time, when you go on living like you are. Think!!! Unbelievable! Unbelievable!
This is written to you out of deep Christian love and concern for you and your dear family.
Concerned Friends, Jacobs
Note: Lester's wife died in a buggy accident and left the whole family without a wife and mother. Later, part of the family was converted to Christianity, and eventually, the father and ten children left the Amish culture, while the other six stayed.
