I left the Amish on August 18, 2007 in California, MO. I had to walk a mile to the highway where my brother Abe from Colorado picked me up. We went to Wal-Mart to get some clothes, but I only had five dollars in my pockets so my brother bought my clothes. We spent the night in the hotel so we would be ready to head out West on Sunday morning which was an adventure.
Then I worked for my brother for four months, and then I came back to Ohio. It was a very hard decision to make to leave the Amish because I didn't want to leave my Dad, Mom and family. But I felt like the church made too many rules. I always thought I don't want to be a Christian so I could enjoy my life, but I found out that is not true.
The first time I heard the need for salvation was in August 2008, when I talked to Joe Keim on the phone for about an hour. Soon after that I started going to Joe's Bible study on Saturday mornings and I started getting hungry for God's word, and saw the need for salvation.
I gave my heart to the Lord on February 16, 2009. After that I felt like a new person. 2nd Corinthians 5:17 really spoke to my heart when I got saved. After that I wanted to follow the Lord and get baptized, Matthew 3:13.
I want to thank Joe Keim and all of my friends who helped me in my spiritual journey. I have come to the point where I want to let go of the past and live for the Lord.
