Father to Son: Don't Get Married in English Church
August 12, 2009
Dear Son,
We received your letter to invite us to your wedding. Don't expect any of us there. Just wish you would be getting married Amish so we could all be there. You wrote that there will be music before the wedding starts, we wouldn't want to be involved in that anyways, as we and you were brought up that, that is something that leads to der bose Gheist [a prideful spirit]. And we still feel so. When the end of the world comes, we can read that there will be a racket too, from the cries of the people that God will send to Hell.
We hope you children don't come to the point that you say or try to feel that you are saved, as there is no such thing. The only way we can reach Heaven is through de Gnade Gottes [the grace of God]. We were always taught if children run away from home and leave their parents, there is no hope for such. And we still feel the same.
In your letter it looked like you are in pretty deep (spiritually), so we don't hope to get in too deep. We hope you children think it over. We know that you know what would be our wish and will.
~ So much---from Dad.
