As Amish populations grow, south county school districts dwindle

ORWELL, OH - Grand Valley Superintendent William Nye said Orwell is getting close to being the next Middlefield when it comes to the size of Amish settlements.
Nye, who did his dissertation on Amish populations and their impact on public school districts, said there are 13 Amish schools in the district and each averages 40 to 50 students. The Amish only attend school from first through eighth grades, he said.
