Year-long battle between Amish, Shelby County comes to end with settlement

SHELBY COUNTY, OH - The legal battle between an Amish community and Shelby County came to an end Wednesday night.

Lawyers for the Amish said they were trying to protect their religious liberty, while county officials say they were looking out for public health.

Both sides presented a deal to the Shelby County Health Department board to avoid going to trial next week in what could have been a legal battle over the first amendment.
