Linda Yoder
July 3, 2024
My life before I left my community was dark, monotonous, depressing, and sad. The rules made me feel like I couldn’t be myself 100%, and I wanted my own independence. Growing up, my view of God was that He felt very far off, and I was told that God is to be feared.
Joe and Esther Keim brought me to the point of seeing my need for salvation. A particular Bible verse that spoke to me was Ephesians 2:8: "For by grace are ye saved through faith." I decided to follow the Lord in baptism because of my faith and my belief in following Jesus' example.
As far as living for the Lord, my goals are to be a missionary and a teacher.
I came to NB because it was a place to live that was close to the market. I knew I couldn’t stay where I was staying before long-term, and I wanted to learn how to drive and get my GED. After NB, I dream of having my own place or sharing a place with my friend.
Some things I like about NB are the Bible studies, my roommates, the fun times together, and the proximity to the church. The rent being affordable is another plus. I don’t really have any hard things; just getting all my work done and finding time to rest can be challenging.
I would tell someone thinking about coming to NB to definitely do it, as it’s a great experience. The other girls are mostly good and easy to get along with. Being in an English church has been amazing, even though it’s really different. Not everyone is watching and judging you for what you do and how you dress; they welcome and accept you. Everyone is so friendly.
