Before I left my community, my life as an Amish person was fulfilling in many ways. I had friends, family, and a pretty good education, but my focus was on salvation. However, I eventually left my community because I was betrayed by my family and falsely accused of something terrible, which was later discovered to have been done by another family member. Additionally, I was led to the Lord by my counselor, and I could no longer align with the Amish beliefs.
While growing up, my view of God was that if I listened and obeyed my parents, I could be worthy of His love. My journey toward salvation was significantly influenced by my counselor, Frieda Graber, who brought the truth to my heart, and then Jesus opened my eyes. A particular Bible verse that spoke to me during this time was, "For I know the plans that I have for you, plans to prosper you and not to harm you; plans to give you a hope and a future." Although I haven't been baptized since being saved or born again, I have set goals for my spiritual life. I want to follow the Lord more every day, trust Him in everything that happens in my life, and express my deep love for Him. Thank You, Jesus!
During my time at NB, my goals include finishing my GED, learning more about the Bible, and focusing on my relationship with Jesus. I'm not certain how long I plan on staying, but it won't be more than two years. The community with the other girls has been awesome. It's been great to spend time with friends who can relate to what I'm going through, especially regarding leaving our culture. We've had a lot of fun together, doing activities like hiking and playing pickleball. Of course, living together means there are some grouchy days, but overall, it's been a positive experience. Going to church has become the highlight of my week. When I was Amish, church was something I dreaded, but now, going to Bethel feels like hanging out with a big happy family, and I can definitely feel Jesus' presence there. I love church!
