After investing much time in Sadie Miller’s life, Esther and I are overjoyed to support her as she follows the Lord’s calling to serve as a missionary in Nicaragua with Eli and Lea Lee. Both Sadie and the Lees, who come from an Amish background, hold a special place in our hearts. Having served with us at Mission to Amish People for a year, we are confident that God has His hand on Sadie. We have witnessed her deep compassion for the children of Nicaragua, whom she spent three months with in 2023. I encourage you to read her letter, share in her burden, and seek God’s guidance on how you might support her one-year missionary journey to Nicaragua.
I am excited to share God’s call on my life to return to Nicaragua and minister to the nationals, specifically the children. The Lord has brought opportunities and established my goings to get the gospel to Nicaragua. I want to tell you what my work for the Lord will look like once I arrive. Let’s start!
God, His work, and me:
I was born and raised Old Order Amish in New York. After leaving the Amish, I became connected to a missionary family that is also former Amish, Eli and Lea Lee. They suggested that one of our family should visit them in Nicaragua. After spending time with them, the open invitation stayed on my mind. I prayed about it and called them, seeking direction on how to know if this was God’s will. With only two weeks left before they were to return to Nicaragua, Eli and I decided to continue praying and see if I could get my passport within that time. We agreed that if it came, this would be confirmation from God. I received my passport in two days!
With such short notice, I tried to come up with the money myself. Plan after plan fell through, and I realized that if God wanted me to go to Nicaragua, He would need to provide the funds. The weekend before my departure, my home church held an Amish Awareness Conference. A couple I had never met before offered to sponsor the remainder of my trip. Wow! With my passport coming quickly and my trip expenses covered, I could tell God was opening the door for me to go.
What I did:
Despite culture shock, the Lee family included me in their everyday life, and I soon adjusted. The Lee Family operates a general goods store, which is very beneficial for the nationals and allowed me to cultivate relationships in the community. In the church the Lees established, I participated in a young ladies’ Bible study in the native language of Miskito. My burden started to form when I noticed three boys who were being neglected by their mother and were not shown the love they needed. I began to invest in these boys. Within a month, the mother left without a trace, which is common in this culture.
The need:
There is a need for someone to step into a children’s ministry role. For a long time, I have felt called to minister to children. Upon continued prayer, I am confident that God is leading me to serve children in this Nicaraguan village. Despite the anxiety of leaving friends, family, and familiar environments, I still think of those in Nicaragua and desire to reach them with the love of Jesus and the great news of the gospel.
My immediate mission field Is Krinkrin, Nicaragua. I will be under the supervision of Eva Lee, Eli and Leah’s adult daughter, as I get established into the culture and a teaching role. I will be interacting with the children, teaching them, coming alongside Eva, building off her connections, and helping to establish new ones.
In preparation for leaving in April or May of 2025, I will be learning to use Child Evangelism tools, such as the wordless soccer ball and the wordless bracelet, as well as connecting with international missionaries so that I will be equipped as I re-enter the mission field. I plan to be in Nicaragua for one year and then re-evaluate God’s leading. The estimated cost for the year is $10,000. This will include:
- Purchasing spiritual aids and Scriptural resources for the children
- Travel expenses
- Visa renewal costs (3 times)
- Medical emergency fund
- Food and toiletries
My greatest need is for you to join my prayer team. I will be sending out a monthly email and also updating my Facebook page frequently. Please sign up for each of these by using the information on the letterhead. If you should choose to donate, please use the enclosed donation slip. It will go into a MAP account that I can access.
Wind Spinners
In an effort to raise funds for my trip, I have made handcrafted wind spinners. They are selling through Beyond Measure Market, the non-profit store operated by Mission to Amish People. To see all eight designs and place an order, go to:

Thank you for considering being part of my prayer team and contributing financially to my mission. I am excited to see what the Lord has for me as I reach out to these very dear children. Please remember to sign up for my Facebook page and monthly email updates.
Because He Lives,
Sadie Miller
