Son to Father: I Got Baptized In a English Church
July 30, 2009
Dear Parents & Family,
Mary, Abe, Mattie, and I got baptized on July 12, 2009. Dad, you wrote that you wouldn't have hopes for any of us that left the Amish and go out in the world and seek all the modern things that are forbidden. Dad, who are these modern things forbidden from???? The Bible or the Amish church? A lot of the Amish rules are manmade rules. They forbid stuff all the time.
You also wrote you believe that different people can go to heaven if they believe in God; if that's the way they were raised. Does it matter the way we were raised? I know the Amish teach that it does matter. Cause you were taught like that? Does that make it right? Do you think on judgment Day, God will let English people that believe in Him enter into Heaven? People that you say have all these modern things and were raised English??? I do. Now!! Us ex-Amish! Do you think God's gonna look at us different then the English people, even if we believe we have the same things. You said that you have hopes for them, but not us. Does God look at people any different??? I don't believe He does according to the Bible.
Dad, I believe what you wrote about..."Not everyone who says Lord, Lord, shall enter the kingdom of heaven." I found that in Matthew, Chapt.7, Vs 21, but there is a difference if you believe it in your head or your heart.
You had written earlier, "If any of you die, we shall not even bother showing up" --- or something like that. I don't believe that's Gods love. But I can understand, I guess. We ran away from you guys. If I would have it over to do, I wouldn't have done it that way; I would just come up and tell you guys what my plans are. I am sorry that I ran away, the way I did. If this is not good enough, I'll come up or we can meet. Or, if you would rather not see me, that s ok too. But if I die, you guys are all welcome.
Sorry, I forgot to answer the last letter you wrote. You wrote that there is no such thing as being saved. Well the Bible tells us you can get saved (in Romans Chap 10:13). I'll print out on a paper John Chap 3. You read verse 3, and all of it too. Don't worry; it is straight from the Bible. I got the Bible on my computer. You can also look it up in your Bible too.
All meant out of love. If you can prove me wrong in the Bible, I will come back. I don't mean to put the Amish down in anyway. I hope and pray you guys understand.
Yours truly, Bennie and Mattie
