Amish Mennonite: 100 Years of Change
In a nutshell, this play covers 100 years of Amish/Mennonite culture change. This event was played out at the Conservative Mennonite Conference in Irwin OH.
- CHANGE from believing it's wrong to have a car, to...now it's ok!
- CHANGE in believing it's wrong to have Bible studies, to...now it's ok!
- CHANGE from thinking that German was the only language that should be used in church, to...now it's ok to preach in English!
The older men and bishops felt they needed to stick with the German language in order to save the Amish/Mennonite faith, but the younger generation wanted to see revival and evangelism spread beyond their own little world. The tug of war was painful, hearts were so sincere on both sides, but as the play suggests, legalism lost and grace abounded.
As I was watching the video, I kept thinking, EVERY MAN AND WOMAN WHO WAS BORN INTO THE AMISH OR MENNONITES, MUST WATCH THIS! And with permission from the Conservative Mennonite Conference, you now have the opportunity to watch it too. Please be blessed.
