The hope of the Gospel is an amazing thing. In Hebrews 11:1 it says that faith is the substance of things hoped for... According to this scripture, hope is the foundation of faith. Psalms says, "Happy is he that hath the God of Jacob for his help, whose hope is in the LORD his God."

What did Jesus teach his disciples about paying taxes? We will see that the Bible is very clear on this issue. If you read Matthew 17:24-27, you will learn that even Jesus paid taxes: The Bible says, when Jesus and his disciples arrived in Capernaum, the tax collectors came to Peter and asked, "Doth not your master pay tribute (taxes)?"

Paul starts Heb. 3:7 by writing, Wherefore as the Holy Spirit says... and then quotes Psalms 95:7-11. By quoting Old Testament scriptures to these New Testament Christians, Paul is making it quite clear the Holy Spirit still speaks to us today from the Old Testament. In fact, in 1Cor. 10:1-11 he tells us the things that happened to the children of Israel while they journeyed in the wilderness were ...written for our admonition...

Paul said, For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them. Eph 2:10 This indicates that before we were born God had a specific plan for us but in the previous verses he is saying that we can not be saved by these good works. We must first be born again in order to fulfill the plan he has for us.

This reasoning is; I hear from God myself, I don't need any man to tell me how and what "my God" has for me. I find this kind of statement terribly prideful and arrogant. Now hear me, I am not saying people don't hear from God, I know they do, I sometimes do myself. However, I am not infallible, I may get it wrong, maybe I am emotional, stressed about something, bottom line is if I think I heard from God, I better test it, with the word of God first of all, the Holy Spirit will never give you something that does agree with scripture and point you to Jesus, for the glory of God.

I have often asked the question, "What is my faith based on?" ¨ Is it based on the word of God? ¨ Is it based on some creed or belief system? ¨ Is it based on some man, or just because grandpa said so? ¨ Is it based on tradition or even in a church or particular denomination? We claim God as perfect. It is essential that we know and teach that God is unequaled in love and power. That is why he wants us to trust in him for everything in our lives! If we really do trust him, then we love him. If we really do love him, then we trust him. If we worry, it is a sign we don't quite trust God.

The story that we are going to read in a minute is one that has been preached millions upon millions of times all over the world. Tens of thousands of books have been written about it and for many generations, fathers, mothers, boys and girls have passed this priceless story on to the next generation. Psalm 139:14 says, "I praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made." This verse talks about our bodies and how perfectly they are created. It tells us how wonderfully our physical bodies are made. This idea of "fearfully" means that we have respect for what God has made. God has made something (our bodies) that show just how smart and powerful God is. The word "wonderfully" agrees that what God has created is good.
