Still The Manna Fell
| July 1, 2008One of the more familiar stories from the Old Testament is about the time when the children of Israel needed food and God gave them manna. Exodus 16:35 And the children of Israel did eat the manna forty years, until they came to a land inhabited; they did eat the manna, until they came unto the borders of the land of Canaan. This fills me with wonder at the size of God's grace.

Examine Yourselves
| July 1, 2008When was the last time you stopped, closed your eyes and looked all the way down deep into your heart and soul to see whether you were truly prepared to die and meet your creator? If you have not done so in awhile, would you consider doing that now? And when you do that, would you consider the following scripture?

Don't Interrupt
| July 1, 2008Most people react badly to being interrupted. They often feel disrespected and small when you talk over them. People who tend to interrupt others generally do so for one of these reasons:

The Duck And The Devil
| July 1, 2008There was a little boy visiting his grandparents on their farm. He was given a slingshot to play with out in the woods. He practiced in the woods; but he could never hit the target. Getting a little discouraged, he headed back for dinner. As he was walking back he saw Grandma's pet duck.

An English, German, and PA-Dutch “Word Comparison Study” Reflecting on Titus 1:1a
| May 1, 2008Before we get started with our "Word Comparison Study", please know that the English text used in this article is from the Authorized King James Version. The German text is from Das Neue Testament unsers Herrn und Heilandes Jesu Christi [nach der deutschen Ubersetzung Martin Luthers "1912"]. The PA-Dutch/German text is taken from Es nei Testament which was translated from the Textus Receptus Greek Text and Dr. Martin Luther's German translation.

Grandma's Hands
| May 1, 2008Grandma, some ninety plus years, sat feebly on the Porch swing. She didn't move, just sat with her head down staring at her hands. When I sat down beside her she didn't acknowledge my presence and the longer I sat I wondered if she was OK.

Bitter Or Better: The Simple Truth About Your Joy In Life (Or Lack Of It!)
| May 1, 2008The toughest, most courageous people in history have been people who in their lives have endured terrible, unfortunate circumstance. I have two friends who are brothers, whose father deserted them when they were young. One went on to have a successful life and family, the other destroyed his relationships, and lived in much bitterness. Both grew up in the same home, with the same parents. What was the difference?

It Is Written
| May 1, 2008When we make a major purchase or wish to have something understood properly, we put the words in writing. The spoken word has weight also, but time has a way of causing us to forget exactly what was said. When God created heaven and earth, he simply spoke all things into existence.

Dear God, Send Just One More Great Awakening
| May 1, 2008Well, it happened again. I woke up two hours before it was time to get up this morning. Like so many other mornings, I couldn't sleep because of my bottomless desire to see revival break out across our Amish communities and the land we live in.

The Silversmith
| May 1, 2008 Malachi 3:3 says: He (God) shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver... This verse puzzled a young man and he wondered what this statement meant about the character and nature of God. So, he went to a silversmith to find out the process of refining silver.
Be Extraordinary, Not Ordinary
| March 1, 2008Paul was a man who was used by God to do extraordinary things, but did you know that he did not start out that way? Believe it or not his name was Saul, and he actually used all of his worldly and religious education to work against the things of God.

A Woman After God's Own Heart?
| March 1, 2008I have been meditating on what God says about King David. God said that David was a man after God's own heart. If you do a study of David's life you will find out that he was a murderer, an adulterer, and he had a son that sought to kill him. These are just a few of the things on King David's list. The truth is something had to happen in David's heart in order for it to change to be a heart after God. As I read through some of the Psalms that David wrote it is like reading David's journal. One of the first lessons I learned in order to become a man or woman after God's own heart is honesty. We have to be honest with ourselves and with God about our feelings and our thoughts and things we have done or are doing.

Freedom From A Wounded Heart
| March 1, 2008On January 13-15 the Freedom From a Wounded Heart Seminar was presented in Ohio. Over 120 people participated in the three-evening event. We live in a culture full of wounded people. So many of these people have been in church all their life yet they still are not free from the chains of woundedness. Yet, the salvation our Heavenly Father has provided will set us free from the bondages stemming from a wounded heart. Below are some truths that will help you understand the wounded heart:
To Forgive And Forget
| March 1, 2008When the Nickel Mines schoolhouse shooting occurred last year, there was a lot of talk about the quickness of the Lancaster Amish to forgive. Forgiving quickly is much better than taking a lot of time.

Pleasing Men or Pleasing God?
| March 1, 2008Hello Friend, I hope this finds you doing well. I pray that God is continually filling you with a deeper hunger to serve Him. I have found that if we are not careful, we can very quickly allow men to keep us from following and serving God the way He wants us to.

Jesus Coming In The Air
| March 1, 2008You are in your buggy and driving home, thinking about all the things that are going on in your world, when suddenly a sound unlike any you've ever heard, fills the air. The sound is high above you. First it sounds like a trumpet; then a choir; then a choir of trumpets...you don't know for sure what it is, but you want to know. So you pull over to the side of the road, get out of your buggy, and look up. As you do, you see you aren't the only curious one.

Something About Noah
| January 1, 2008No matter what your opinion is of the flood, we may all benefit from the lessons that can be learned from Noah's convictions. According to the biblical account, if we figure each day as a literal twenty four hour day, which seems to have been the case when we read Genesis chapter one in the following manner...

What a Gift We Have in Jesus!
| January 1, 2008What a blessed time of year we have just come through! There is Thanksgiving with all the family, friends, fun, and of course the food! Then there is Christmas! To a lot of people, Christmas may be just more of the same with the exception of the gifts, but to me Christmas becomes more special and more real every year-especially since I have had a child; we have a second child on the way. I realize that Christmas is not just a story we read about in the Bible, or like to read to our children. This is something that really happened.

Moving Forward in 2008
| January 1, 2008Whether it is changing a habit or setting some other goal, there are steps to follow which can help us achieve success. It is a common practice to set New Year's resolutions (change habits or set goals) which we hope will be accomplished by the end of the year. Too often we fail to take even the first step towards reaching our goals. Hopefully the following five principles will help you towards success.

Hay-Ropes, Ice, and Faith
| January 1, 2008When I was young and growing up, we had one of those large old barns, with four haymows. When we put loose hay in the back mows, we children often had the job of pulling back the carriage to the center for the next load. My older cousins who happened to be helping with hay showed us that you could ride the rope down from the crosstie. That looked risky, so we would climb halfway up and try that first. When we came to the point where we believed that was safe, we would climb higher and grab the rope for a ride down. I began to have faith in that rope. And to gain faith, I had to become familiar with the object-in this case the rope.

Hunting for Fault
| January 1, 2008Hunting is a popular sport in Ohio. I have enjoyed many days in the woods while hunting squirrel, rabbits and deer. I've learned that although you have the right equipment, the proper skill, great weather and territory, you do not always find the game you're hunting for.

What is the Church?
| January 1, 2008I have to confess that there was a time in my life, probably around my 18th birthday, when I oftentimes wondered how it was possible that God could accept people into His Kingdom who were from all walks of life. For instance...

Become Amish?
| January 1, 2008Recently, I read a story about an Amish newspaper that received hundreds of letters asking how to become Amish. The article explained that most people wanted a change of pace or were feeling stressed by their hectic lifestyle. The answer, they thought, was to become Amish.
It's Hard To Be A Leader If You're Addicted To Anger
| January 1, 2008Anyone can become angry. That is easy. But to be angry with the right person, to the right degree, at the right time, for the right purpose and in the right way - that is not easy. Anger can eat a person up. People who explode and express anger easily can cause great harm to those they are called to encourage. It's important for us to understand anger and it's ability to destroy.

Learning To "Wait" On The Lord
| January 1, 2008Desperately, helplessly, longingly, I cried: Quietly, patiently, lovingly God replied. I pled and I wept for a clue to my fate, and the Master who gently said, "Child, you must wait." "Wait?" You say, wait!," my angry reply. "Lord, I need answers, I need to know why! Is your hand shortened? Or have you not heard? By faith, I have asked, and am claiming your Word.
