Dear Parents Letter
| July 5, 2012Dear Dad and Mom, It's me. Your child. I want to tell you what's been on my heart for a while. You see, in spite of the fact that I've chosen a different life than you ever would have wanted me to, it doesn't mean I dislike you. Just because I've chosen not to embrace your religion doesn't mean I don't embrace you. In spite of our differences, I want to tell you that I love you.

Is Christ In Your Box?
| July 1, 2012I went to visit an Amish friend in the hospital. While waiting to go into her room, I had an opportunity to talk with her husband and relatives, ultimately leading to a discussion about heaven. I shared with them how I was born again and how it freed me when Jesus came into my heart. As they listened, I could tell some disagreed.

My Mess Is Turned to Beauty!
| July 1, 2012I'm in bigger trouble than I have ever thought possible, as I look over my life, my marriage. I see broken pieces of glass all shapes and sizes. They overwhelm my soul and mind as I stand here looking so helpless into this tin can, digging through it getting cut and bruised. In desperation I cry-hot tears streaming down my face. What am I to do "Lord", I silently scream. I can't fix this. It's to broken.
Come Unto Me
| July 1, 2012Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. -Matthew 11:28-30
Is Your Best Good Enough for God?
| July 1, 2012When I was a child, I thought of God as a vague (unclear), faraway being who wanted something from me. To be honest, I was a bit confused. I knew there was a problem with sin, but that didn’t stop me and I really didn’t know how to stop doing the wrong that I did. So, I kept asking God to forgive me for my sins, hoping and praying that at Judgment He would remember that I asked for forgiveness, thinking that asking for forgiveness was the solution.

Will Heaven Be Divided Up Into Sections?
| May 23, 2012Has it ever crossed your mind as to how God is setting up heaven for all the different people groups who live on earth? Is He setting it up in such a way that in one area you have the English people; go a little further and you find the Hutterites; go a little further and find the Chinese, go a little further and now we come to the Amish section of heaven. Or do you think that once we get to heaven we will all live together as one big happy family?

Commitment
| May 1, 2012Commitment is a word packed with meaning. I used to think I understood the meaning of this word when I married my husband. But in time, I realize that commitment doesn't end when it requires something from us. Neither does it end when our spouse does something we don't like. It doesn't even end when they hurt us. And it doesn't end when we are misunderstood. In fact, sometimes it calls for great sacrifice.

Sex in Marriage is Good
| May 1, 2012Since writing To Kill a Lion: Destroying the Power of Lust from the Root, I have come to the conclusion that many sexual problems exist because people do not understand the blessing of their sexuality and therefore they fall into sexual bondage and guilt. So what do I mean?
Youth Leaving the Amish Culture
| May 1, 2012Why are there so many young people leaving their parents and the Amish culture? Is it because the days are evil and according to Romans 1:30 and II Tim 3:2, it will just end that way? Is it because young people want to know why they are required to live differently from the rest of American society and are not getting solid answers (at least in their own mind) that make sense? Is it because more and more Amish youth have cell phones and are able to stay connected with their friends who left before them and, in the process, get talked into leaving too? Is it because the Amish population continues to grow (doubling in size every 15 years). And as it grows, the number of youth leaving becomes greater too?
Get Into The Wheelbarrow!
| May 1, 2012Years ago when I was young in the faith, I became enthused about the gospel message as I understood it more and more. A young man in my Sunday school class came to me expressing how he thought I perhaps had found the key to faith. I pondered that because I had never thought of faith having or needing a key. The Bible says; Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. (Hebrews 11: 1)

How Can You Pass Such Harsh Judgment on the Amish?
| April 1, 2012I'm sorry, Joe Keim, but I do not understand your views. If a person believes, he believes and is saved (John 3:16) and if you believe, you will try to live a good life, helping others. None is without sin. I am sure you have sinned and will sin again.
How Great Is Our God?
| March 1, 2012Have you ever thought about how great our God is and just how much he actually loves us? We tend to imagine that he is a certain way and does things the way we are. We know it is wrong to create an idol and bow ourselves down to it, but how many times do we do that in our minds by imagining God to be a certain way? Too many times we tend to put God in a box or draw a line in the sand and say that God is inside these parameters. The next thing we know God is over there somewhere using a person that does not fit inside our box. And what do we do? Many times we write it off as from the Devil because, by the way, the Devil is powerful too.

How To Combat Sexual Addiction
| March 1, 2012More and more, we are all hearing about the rising number of sexual crimes. Counselors are crying out for help because of how many marriages are breaking up. Many sexual-abuse victims are seeking help-all because of the flood of immorality that is attacking our culture. It is not just happening in the "world," but it is out of control in almost every church or religious setting.
Emotional Healing
| March 1, 2012I met the Lord as a young Amish girl and I came out of the Amish some years later. It was a difficult thing to walk through the mine field of emotions and feelings I had during that time. Sometimes the pain and anger would explode inside of me so quickly, it was like stepping on a mine.
The Titanic
| March 1, 2012Few shipwrecks have held our attention as long as the story of the Titanic. On April 15, 2012, it will be 100 years ago since the tragedy of that fateful night occurred. Our ancestors came across the Atlantic Ocean on wooden sailing ships that were small and weak compared to the Titanic.

The Magic Is Not In The Faucet
| March 1, 2012Thomas Edward Lawrence was born on August 16, 1888, in England. When Lawrence grew to manhood, he joined the British Military and soon became famous for his daring actions in Arabia. During the war, Lawrence formed close friendships with many of the LEADERS of Arabia, and, when the war was over, he brought some of these LEADERS back to England to show his appreciation for their support.

Who Is Greatest?

Questions and Answers
| March 1, 2012The following letter was sent in response to an article I wrote in the fall of 2011.
Kentucky: Greetings in Jesus name. Hope this finds you well. I have been reading the Amish Voice for some time. And at times I have questions. For example: In the September issue on "Salvation: Event or Process?" I understand you to say that Jesus' death on the cross paid for all of our sins. My question is, were our sins paid for or are/were they forgiven?

Interview of a {former Amish} Woman (Part 2 of 2)
| February 3, 2012Part 2 of 2: An Amish woman who was shunned for her faith and left the Order when she was married and in her 30's, is going to be opening up about her experience. Once she began questioning the "faith" based on Jesus Christ, her troubles began inside the Order. She's now ready to start sharing her story and has graciously allowed me to interview her. All the words are solely "Deborah's" and in her "voice" and because of her contacts, in present day, with the Amish, she needs to remain anonymous (thank you for understanding, ahead of time).

How Shall We Ever Please God?
| January 1, 2012One of the most interesting and inspiring explanations anywhere with regard to our new relationship in Christ is in Romans chapter 7 where Paul likens the walk of grace to a marriage scenario. But first we will visit briefly what law is like.

Christian Suffering

Trust Me, My Child

Law Moved Aside and Faith In Christ Stepped In
| January 1, 2012"Before faith came, we were under the law"-before Jesus' work on the cross was completed, all of mankind was under the law. The law, could be described as a person who is constantly watching over your shoulder, and every time you break a law, he points his finger in your face and cries: Law breaker! Guilty! Condemned! Judged! Failure!

There ARE wolves in the church that want you to shut up
| December 16, 2011For years I have had a secret fear there could be something wrong with me.
Something wrong with my understanding of God, His love and His expectations of us as His people.
It has been difficult to identify "it" but I am confronted with "it" regularly when I am open and honest with other believers who don't share my views. So, after numerous well meaning corrections over the years from fellow believers, I've learned to tone down my expression of the stirrings in my heart. I have also never been able to get away from "it'.

Are the Amish Truly Born Again?
| November 8, 2011I've never questioned the fact there are Amish people who've had a born again experience but have chosen to stay Amish in spite of their conversion. The question is: how many would you say are really born again? Few? About half? Most?
Maybe these questions don't mean much to you, however, they are very important to me, since I speak on this subject on a regular basis, and it is NOT my desire to paint a dishonest picture of the Amish.
Having been in full time ministry since 2000, I run into mostly ones who do not understand salvation and will excommunicate those who take a stand for faith alone, grace alone, Christ alone for salvation.
